Why do I need a design?
You need to begin with the end in mind.

If you want to build a house you begin with the end in mind. You imagine the finished home, but you don't just go the home improvement store and start buying stuff pile it up on the site and grab some boards and start hammering. You find an architect and discuss plans and budget. Then they draw up the plans, and make the revisions to tailor to your needs and budget.  You then find a contractor who stays on top of the project and makes sure you get what you envisioned. 

Creating a successful landscape is no different. There are many steps to creating a beautiful, lasting and sustainable landscape that will add value to your home. Starting with a design is integral to this goal.
